The pursuit of engineering chartership signifies a significant milestone in an engineer's career, representing the pinnacle of professionalism, expertise, and ethical standards. In this interview, we chat to Titi Oliyide about her journey to achieving this mark of excellence within the engineering community.
Titi, a Chemical Engineer with expertise in Safety has a breath of experience across multiple sectors including Oil & Gas, Railway and Hydrogen. However, her journey towards attaining chartership status did not set off on a smooth sail – her experience comprising mostly of roles within non-traditional Chemical Engineering sectors made it tricky for her to be able to present her experiences to meet the much narrower set of criteria demanded by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). Undeterred by this, Titi opted to pursue her professional registration with the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) which caters to a broader group of engineering disciplines.
In this interview, she discusses navigating this journey as well as strategies for successfully getting accredited.
